Burger King Buys Firehouse Subs
Restaurant Brand International (RBI), the parent company of Burger King, Tim Hortons, and Popeyes with over 27,000 restaurants in 100 countries announced that it will acquire Firehouse Subs for one billion dollars.
Firehouse Subs was started in the 1990s by firefighter brothers in Jacksonville, Florida.
Jose Cil, the CEO of RBI called Firehouse Subs an awesome brand with exponential growth over the past decade taking 400 to 1,200 restaurants with sales growing four times. In the last five years the chain with franchisees has started growing in Canada and Puerto Rico.
Earlier today, on CNBC's closing bell, Cil commented, "Its a great brand, differentiated brand positioning that is purpose driven with the Firehouse Public Safety Foundation. They have given more than $60 million to communities in which they operate through life saving equipment that... fire departments use."
He continued, "The other opportunity we see if from a digital standpoint. They have already made some inroads there, but with our investments in technology and the growth we have seen with example like Tim Horton's in Canada, we think there are compelling opportunities for Firehouse Subs."
