Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) sets standards and HD SDI complies with SMPTE's  1.485 Gbit/s (bit rate per second). According to the standards, HD SDI has the ability to transmit over 300 feet (or 100 metes for the rest of the international community) 720 or 1080p over coax cabling.
